Professor Susan McHugh at the University of New England not only teaches English classes, but is also a published author. 

Most of McHugh’s classes begin with free writes to inspire the day. Since writing is such a big portion of her life, she was able to give insight on how the writing process works for her. But, how does an English professor also juggle writing novels into her schedule?

McHugh ensures that her students have a basic understanding of what makes a good writer. For her paper assignments in class, students have to workshop each other’s pieces before the final is submitted. It’s a way for a small class to get to know each other and be helpful at the same time.
