Spokane welcomed a new coffee shop in 2018, well the storefront for it anyway. Ladder coffee first originated from the creator’s front porch with the intent of giving out coffee to his neighbors but that quickly changed when hundreds of people started showing up at his front door. Ladder coffee has a unique name for an artisanal coffee shop, but it comes with a purpose. Ladder is all about giving back to the community and for them they want people to see the ladder like their life, a pair of rungs that have to be climbed in order to get to the next step of your life. With hospitality being their main focus of their shop, they created their sitting area to mimic a living room in a normal everyday house. This worked in their favor as more people started to enjoy and connect with people in the community. Even though they opened another storefront in February of 2020, they were able to fight through the pandemic and open more stores throughout the scary times of the world. Ladder takes a keen interest in Gonzaga University students and they hire them in hopes to teach them about leadership and the next step in their life.
