Gonzaga University takes a look back at the most memorable basketball moments as the WCC tournament approaches. One goes to Jill Townsend with her amazing basket right before the buzzer sounded. It was a huge accomplishment for the Zags as eight basketball players came down with a stomach bug before the game. After this Townsend received the Most Outstanding Player award and was selected towards the All-Star Tournament Team. Two goes to Tillian Kille’s basketball career run, one of the most valuable players from France on the Zags men’s basketball team. In the final eight games of the season, he was averaging 14 points a game with a 62% shot from the field. Unfortunately the pandemic hit, and his career came to a quick halt on the Zags team. Three goes to the women’s WCC tournament for the Zags in 2017. The reason this stands in history is because the leading forward at the time, Jill Barta, beat the record for most scored points in a game: 37 points total. Four goes to the men’s basketball team run in 2000, beating their opponents after losing out at the Final Four the previous year. They were the underdogs who rose to victory in 2000. Finally five is goes to the first WCC championship for the men’s team in 1995. The coach at the time, Fitzgerald, was the leading cause behind the team’s victory for the next 20+ years.
