Overall the editorial team process, in my opinion, was helpful to everyone. One of the key portions of the editorial team were the suggestions given to the journalist on who to interview or where the article should head to next. Even though they were small, I still think that they were the most helpful in terms of direction when it came to someone who was stuck on their piece. The other thing commonly mentioned throughout were the use of interviewees. Were they good? Did they provide the information necessary for the piece? Did they lead the article in the direction that was intended? Interviewees are a huge part of the article and making sure they fit were extremely important. With the help of my peers and comments made from myself, I can confidently say that the whole class has a better understanding of interviewing. With interviewing came quotes. Your quotes, just like your interviewee, need to be relevant to your article. That was another big thing talked about through the editorial team process. I think as a class we all made comments to each other about quotes and their importance. In my article for example, I shortened a lot of quotes and even summarized information more because of the suggestions made from the editorial team. It ended up making my article look neater and you were able to read my article easier as well. Even though it isn’t mentioned a lot in the editorial team process, I will say that was entertaining to see each person write their piece and see their own type of style throughout the weeks. What topics did they choose and why? Just an interesting tangent to add! With that being said, understanding the different genres was also mentioned a couple of times. Is this really a news piece? If not, how can we get it there? That’s where new suggestions would be put into place from the editorial team for the journalist. I didn’t think the editorial team portion was going to have such a huge impact on me as the author, but it did and I must say it was one of the things I enjoyed the most!
