Spokane Community Against Racism (SCAR) is a volunteer group raising awareness of BIPOC and police accountability. After a white man, who had a backpack full of knives and guns, shot a black man in the back and walked away not guilty, the community was in an uproar and SCAR was born. SCAR is composed of 25 people who try to spark new laws and understandings on the local and state level. They soon found out that Spokane has the third deadliest police force in America per capita. After learning this the group quickly offered education to the community and tries to promote a better understanding of anti-racism. Every Sunday the group heads to the Main Market Co-Op and gives out free burritos, drinks, and provides trash pick up. Solely run on volunteers, the group’s business has skyrocketed. Their burritos went from 40 to 250 and believe it is the only thing they can do in this capitalistic society. The organization even has their own website where people can learn about their program, their beliefs, and develop a better understanding of anti-racism.
