In honor of National Transgender Visibility Day, the Lincoln LGBTQ+ Center held a panel of transgender individuals to speak about the importance of leadership, respect, and transgender visibility. There were four individuals present who spoke on representation and leadership within the Spokane community. They also reflected on their own encounters and experiences with gender identity and how to strengthen the respect and support needed to be present in the university. During the panel discussion, they also spoke about how all identities are required to have a voice within the university and they will not allow discrimination to take place. One panelist said that just being alive and present in everyday life is a type of leadership. Another piece of advice was to not be afraid to introduce yourself with pronouns whenever meeting new people. Visibility is highly important for the transgender community and they should not feel like they need to hide who they truly are in everyday life.
