Gonzaga University is now funding two on campus food pantries to help combat student’s food insecurities. They are located in two separate buildings and stocked with non-perishable items. One of the leading factors towards their initiative was a survey about food insecurity sent out to the student body to complete. After the results, the board sat down with the head of the cafeteria to start the project. Charlotte Low, the vice president of the Gonzaga Student Body Association, said that a lot of the lack of food inclusion was based on assumptions. People simply assume that students have enough time to go to the dining hall or assume that students have enough money to go get groceries to fill them up when their schedule has become too busy during the week. However, based on the survey, these assumptions are wrong. The hope is that the food pantry will also grow and start to include hygiene products for students as well.
